Gary Kubiak on Vikings’ offensive woes: ‘I’ve got to do a better job’

In their first two games, both lopsided losses, the Vikings have called 56 pass plays and run the ball 40 times, four by quarterback Kirk Cousins. They haven’t been able to run as much as they want because with the defense struggling they’ve fallen way behind in games.

“That’s what we are,’’ offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said Thursday about Minnesota’s style. “That’s what we want, and we came out of training camp with a good, solid training camp and obviously that hasn’t correlated to the first two weeks, but we’ve got to stay positive and stay committed to what we want to be as a group.’’

Kubiak said the Vikings’ rushing average per carry of 5.4 yards has “been pretty good” and they “haven’t run it enough.’’ Entering Sunday’s game against Tennessee at U.S...

French Open to allow just 1,000 people a day at Roland Garros

Organisers of the French Open, which gets underway four months later than planned in Paris on Sunday, had hoped for a maximum of 5,000.

A maximum of only 1,000 people will be allowed each day at Roland Garros after the French government insisted Thursday on tougher restrictions to counter the resurgence of the coronavirus.

Organisers of the French Open, which gets underway four months later than planned in Paris on Sunday, had hoped for a maximum of 5,000.

That figure had already been reduced from 20,000 and then 11,500.

The decision by the French government will be a huge blow to Roland Garros which last year attracted on average around 37,000 fans a day.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex, speaking on France 2 TV, insisted that the Grand Slam tournament must be subject to the same ...

Written by Bubbu Tir

“Thank God, there are farmers, or human beings would have to do farming too!”

I grew up, listening to this line, amidst exasperated sighs.

Why so, pray? In the farming community, one never really sutures ties with the land, whether or not it’s a matter of sustenance or livelihood. One remains rooted, in every sense of the term. Farming requires endless, tireless hardwork and unquestioning patience. You can neither bribe the weather out of its vagaries, nor cheat on the required time. You can’t manipulate the fertility of the land either and can’t even hope for the equation to gravitate towards profits, if any.

U.S. congressional testimony of Homeland whistleblower postponed until next week

WASHINGTON, Sept 24 (Reuters) – A U.S. House of Representatives committee has postponed the deposition of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) whistleblower, saying the department had dragged its feet to help the official prepare for his testimony.

In a statement released late on Thursday, Democratic intelligence committee chair Adam Schiff said the panel would reschedule the deposition of former DHS intelligence chief Brian Murphy until next week because DHS has delayed security clearances for his lawyers and barred Murphy from reviewing classified materials.

After DHS removed Murphy as its acting intelligence chief earlier this summer, he filed a whistleblower complaint claiming that top department officials had pressured him to stop providing assessments of the threat of Russian ...
